12 July 2008: Stage Eight: Trouble in Toulouse
Quick update, phone is low on battery, sun looks like it won't come
out for days, and I can't find CJ. Made it to Toulouse, and other than
the kebab I just ate, I can't find many redeeming features of this town.
Would be glad to ride the planned 80 km from this town, except it is
cold, raining, CJ is nowhere to be found, and my right knee feels like
someone has been pounding on it with a hammer. But that's the great
thing about the tour--tomorrow is another day. A mountainous day. If the
knee survives tomorrow and Monday, I just might make it.
Thanks to everyone who has written with words of encouragement. I won't
have time to reply, but I am tucking your messages in my jersey pocket
each morning, along with an eclair and a chausson au pommes.
[Webmaster's note: Jesse and CJ did find one another... after an hour
and a half of searching. They rode on the next 50 km and then setup
their camp for the night.]
