23 July 2008: Stage Seventeen (halfway): Only Six Stages Left
Camped on the side of the road, about 12 km up the Col de la Croix de
Fer. CJ and I had to split up this afternoon. I just got word that he is
being held hostage at the base of Alpe du'Huez by a rogue band of French
reporters (which I assume means he has found a place to crash in Bourg
d'Oisans). I hope to meet him there tomorrow at 8:45, which will mean a
pre-sunrise start a few hours from now. Is Alpe du'Huez really only 60
km away?
I know that anything could happen in the next few days, so I dare not
think about Paris. But I am incredibly grateful for having made it this
far, and for every pedal stroke, painful or not, that brings me closer
to the Champs d'Elysee. La vite est bonne (unlike my French).
