18 July 2008: Stage Twelve: The Easiest and Toughest
The easiest and toughest day yet. Only 200 km, with a huge tailwind
for much of the way and no major climbs. My knees, on the other hand,
started out the day as lemons and ended up as grapefruits. CJ was kind
not too say anything, but I think even he noticed when I was passed by a
6-year-old girl on a pink tricycle.
I have iced my knee twice, and CJ was able to convince the phramacist in
a po-dunk town to hand over some prescription anti-inflammatories. I
hope to limp my way through a relatively easy 190 km tomorrow, though
with a tweaked hamstring and every pedal stroke breaking my kneecaps
like Joe Pesci, the end may be near. (Mom, tell Bobby that the odds are
now at 10 to 1 against.)
