18 June, 2008: Au Revoir, L'Etats Unis!
I am in Terminal 2 of LAX, most of the way through a
6-hour layover. I think I have heard the last un-accented English that I
will hear for a while--I am surrounded by a group of French Rotarians,
and they seem to be as excited about going to France as I am. I feel
like a kid on Christmas Eve. Replace, in the lines of the old rhyme,
"sugar plums" with "pastries," and "Dasher, Donner, Prancer, et al" with
"beat-up but much-loved Trek," and voila! You have my state of mind. And
if Santa can deliver all those presents to all those kids, all in one
night, then maybe the old Trek can do one lap of France in 23 days.
Let's just hope the engine is up to it.
A bientot en France!
